Over the decades Russell has provided footwear for presidents, heads of state, and royalty from around the globe. Each of these customers had a common need for performance to fit their pursuits, and aesthetics to match their rank. The Highland Chukka is a classic pattern from the Russell Archives that tows that line. A refined daily wear chukka, the Highland is capable across a variety of terrains and conditions while maintaining a distinctive formality. The exterior is Horween Tan Chromexcel, famed for it's depth of color and exceptional patina over time. The entire interior has been lined with supple full-grain pigskin to provide a glove-like feel with dress socks.
After much testing, we settled on three antique brass eyelets over the instep combined with three army studs up the ankle as the best combination to ensure a secure fit and rapid lacing. The army studs are just high enough on the ankle to be covered by the break on your trousers.
Underfoot is a "Double Stack" midsole (An Oak Leather midsole Goodyear stitched to a rubber midsole), which acts as both a shank and a long term re-soling surface. Beneath the midsole layers is a classic British Dainite outsole, a true leather stacked heel, and a Dainite toplift. This is the finest sole combination ever used on a Russell, and is used elsewhere only on the Nochaway Cavalier.
