LEGEND OF THE RUSSELL MAN

From his shop in southwest Arkansas, Jerry Fisk has spent decades turning forged steel into functional art. An American Bladesmith Society Master Bladesmith since 1989, Fisk is one of the most highly recognized figures in modern American bladesmithing, known for work that combines traditional forging, performance, and artistic finish. He was the 17th bladesmith to earn the ABS Master Bladesmith rating, a credential the ABS describes as recognizing some of the highest skill levels in the craft. (DAH Site)

Fisk’s career reflects a lifetime of mastery and preservation. He was named the 1998–99 National Living Treasure by the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Museum of World Cultures, with the award presented in March 1999. He later helped pioneer Arkansas’s own Living Treasure program and was recognized in 2019 as the first Honorary Arkansas Living Treasure. (Internet Archive)

His honors include the Beretta Award for Outstanding Achievement, the American Bladesmith Society’s W.W. Scagel Lifetime Achievement Award and Don Hastings Award, and two William F. Moran Knife of the Year Awards. Fisk is also a member of the ABS Hall of Fame, and his knives are represented in permanent museum collections, including the New York State Museum and Historic Arkansas Museum. (jerryfisk.com)

Fisk has also spent much of his career teaching and preserving the craft. Arkansas Heritage notes that he has taught at the Bill Moran Texarkana School of Bladesmithing since 1998 and served as an advisor to Historic Arkansas Museum. His own biography lists lectures, demonstrations, and classes in Brazil, France, and Russia, along with work helping develop bladesmithing education in Brazil. (DAH Site)

For a craftsman who moves between forge, field, and workshop, Fisk chose the Joe's PH boot. His personal pair can be seen below:
