MORGAN POTTER

LEGEND OF THE RUSSELL MAN

Born in Western Australia in 1988, Morgan Potter harbored a wanderlust that led him far beyond the outback. In 2010, he relocated to Tanzania to pursue a career as a Professional Hunter, earning his license and guiding safaris across Northern Masailand, the Selous Game Reserve, and Western and Central Tanzania. Joining the world-renowned Robin Hurt Safaris team, Potter dedicated his life to traditional, fair-chase hunting in Africa’s vast, untamed wilderness areas. Potter carries forward the classic East African hunting tradition made famous by legend and fellow Russell Man, Robert Ruark, while sharing modern wilderness conservation perspectives alongside contemporaries like Steven Rinella.

As Potter notes of his craft, his career is defined by "an adherence to the traditions of our industry and a steadfast belief in sustainable hunting as a conservation tool." Potter transitioned from an adventurous young Australian to one of East Africa's premier professional hunters, upholding the highest standards of wild-game conservation. His accolades speak to a lifetime of field craft and wilderness leadership:

  • Professional Hunter with Robin Hurt Safaris: Guides clients through remote, highly managed concessions including Lake Natron and the Luganzo Game Reserve.
  • Four-Continent Outdoorsman: Has pursued game across four continents and guided professionally on three.
  • Tanzanian Wilderness Specialist: Managed dangerous game tracking across Northern Masailand, the Selous Game Reserve, and Western Tanzania.
  • Champion of Sustainable Conservation: Advocates for habitat preservation and community-backed anti-poaching initiatives through regulated fair-chase hunting.

Tracking Cape buffalo on foot across thorn-choked thickets, sharp lava rock, and sodden swamp beds demands footwear that protects without sacrificing silent stealth. Potter relies on Russell Safari and Gustin models, to handle the punishing miles of an East African safari. In the grand tradition of African professional hunting, Potter is a Renaisannance man

Morgan & Rinella

Earlier this year Meateater released a multi-part series on Steven Rinella's hunt in Tanzania with Morgan. Both chose to wear Russells for the trip.

Tact & Tenacity

Morgan is a student of history, and of the native culture. Using centuries old techniques like fire to clear brush, Morgan brings a unique and far reaching perspective to the hunt.
