MODEL DETAILS
The tale behind the South 40 was written in the pheasant fields of South Dakota in 1983-1984. Our team realized the need for a boot that could hold up to a broad variety of conditions and tackle long miles with comfort, all in the lightweight package the Russell Bird Shooter model is known for. Introduced in 1984, the Russell South 40 Bird Shooter was an instant success and continues to be the best in class 40 years later.

Included with our Double and Triple Vamp Boots
A pair of Comfort Insoles is included with our Double and Triple vamp Models. Use is optional, however they are an excellent way to make slight adjustments to the boot fit and add shock absorption.

Triple Vamp Construction
3) Inner Vamp
Our unique sock-like liner that seals the interior of our performance footwear. This true moccasin layer is hand-lasted and makes the boot incredibly water-resistant and comfortable.
1) Outer Vamp
This is the primary moccasin layer that forms the core of all our footwear. Hand lasted from the bottom-up, it wraps all the way underneath the foot for the ultimate flexibility and comfort.
4) Molded Sole
In the early days the Molded Sole was the actual sole of the boot. Today it is used primarily like a heel counter for the whole foot, making the boot incredibly stable in mountainous terrain. It is also a true-moccasin layer.
2) Overlap Seam
Patented in 1910 at Russell, the Overlap seam protects the joint between the vamp and plug. Hand sewn for nearly two hours per pair, it is highly water-resistant and differentiates Russells from Maine Moccasins.
