MODEL HISTORY

The Blood Hunter is a special variant of our famous PH Boot (short for Professional Hunter). Customers such as Edward VIII and Robert Ruark were some of the first to hunt in Russells on the continent of Africa starting in the 1920s - 1950s. Their light weight, comfort, and extreme durability made them perfect for trekking for weeks on end. Recognizing this growing demand, we modified our famous Bird Shooter Model in the 1960's with canvas quarters to be more breathable in the African heat. This new model was dubbed the "Safari" and was favored by British writer Bruce Chatwin on his international expeditions. In the 1990's we added a Molded Sole (See construction details below) to help protect against thorns and rocks, creating the PH boot.

COLLAB DETAILS

The Blood Hunter collaboration features this distilled construction backed by 128 years of heritage in the field. It utilizes the unique Blood Core leather developed by Rose Anvil and Seidel Tannery in Milwaukee (Just an hour and a half from our shop). The quarters, usually made of twill, have been replaced with the Blood Brother Denim developed by Naked & Famous Denim, which has the same blood red core dye as the leather. Together, this model brings together unique materials and history to create a product that is as overbuilt as it is stunning. We hope you enjoy wearing them as much as we have enjoyed making them.

SINGLE VAMP + MOLDED SOLE CONSTRUCTION

1) Outer Vamp

This is the primary moccasin layer that forms the core of all our footwear. Hand lasted from the bottom-up, it wraps all the way underneath the foot for the ultimate flexibility and comfort.

3) Molded Sole

In the early days the Molded Sole was the actual sole of the boot. Today it is used primarily like a heel counter for the whole foot, making the boot incredibly stable in mountainous terrain. It is also a true-moccasin layer.

2) Overlap Seam

Patented in 1910 at Russell, the Overlap seam protects the joint between the vamp and plug. Hand sewn for nearly two hours per pair, it is highly water-resistant and differentiates Russells from Maine Moccasins.
