The Boot
Prior to 1898, the company which became Russell Moccasin (the Wright Shoe Company) specialized in logging boots during Wisconsin's 1800s timber boom. To this day, a significant group of Russell customers make their living working in the woods. They are wildlife biologists, timber cruisers, DNR officers, and foresters. To better serve these customers, we have created a special variant of the original Bird Shooter model (which has been continuously produced for over 100 years) in a configuration designed for our woodsmen. Enter the Russell Forester.
The Leather
Made from our classic water-resistant, full-grain Weathered Oak Timberjack leather, the Forester is nearly impervious to water. The vamp, toe piece, and backstay of the Forester utilize the flesh side of the hide, also known as the roughout, which has an excellent resistant to abrasion from brush and rock. The quarters feature the beautiful grain side of the hide for contrast. Condition with Obenaufs or Pecards.Â
The Construction
The Forester is made with our famous Double Vamp Moccasin construction. The entire boot is leather lined for support and added water-resistance. The Forester is 9" tall with Army Studs, top eyelet, and a pull loop. A hand-molded oak leather heel counter makes the boot lock onto your foot for ultimate control and stability. Please note that the boot itself takes very little break in, but there may be a short break in period for the heel counter to mold itself to your heel shape. This typically takes 2-3 days of wear.Â
The Sole
Famous for conquering Mt. Everest, the Vibram Montagna is a serious outsole that provide dependable grip and support alongside our Double-stack midsole system. The longstanding sole has been used at Russell since the mid 1900s, and continues to be favorite for aggressive hiking applications.
