The Boot
Combining the rugged good looks of the Cavalier, with several modifications for everyday convenience, the Zephyr was the original zipper-back moccasin. A brass YKK zipper above the heel provides added on-and-off speed and permits snugger fit around the leg than it's Cavalier forefather. Made from our newly developed Walnut Timberjack leather, this boot is equally at home in the field or at the office.
The Leather
Over the last year we have worked with our long-time partners at S.B. Foot Tannery to redevelop our classic leather color and feel. The resulting leather, Walnut Timberjack, is highly water resistant, patinas beautifully, and is a wonderful balance of performance and good looks.
The Construction
The Zephyr features Russell's signature Double Vamp construction for water resistance and long term durability (See the Process Page for details). New for 2024, we have added a hand molded oak-leather heel counter to prevent walkover and provide a snugger fit in the heel that will conform to your heel shape as your wear the boot. In addition the Zephyr has a Poron sock liner for shock absorption and all day comfort. As always, the handsewn Russell Overlap seams on the toe pieces provide a water resistant and sporty exterior.
The Sole
The sole construction features an oak-leather midsole and a rubber liner midsole. This new "double midsole" does a much better job of stiffening the arch for better support and is designed to ensure the Zephyr can be easily resoled throughout the life of boot. Beneath the midsole is a classic Vibram Oxford outsole. The low profile and classic looks make it great for pairing with business casual attire. Since the Zephyr is designed for flat to mild terrain, the minimal tread of the Oxford also helps prevent mud from caking on the sole.
