First boot purchase: the quality is superb, looks even better in person. Feels great, and the leather is incredible. Cannot recommend the backcountry enough! Above all else, the costumer service is excellent. Had some misunderstandings about the build time for the boots, and they squared it off for me right away, even shipped an in stock pair to me that day! Quick service. Shoutout to Chelsea for the great work!

Beautiful boots. I do question the fit. The first pair I tried I could not get on my feet. Went up one full size.

The fit around the foot is fine, but I find the eyestays are nearly touching when I lace them up. I have already added a Kilty, and it helps a little, but not much. If I really crank on the laces, the eyestays hit each other. I'm wondering how these will fit once they really stretch and break in.

I definitely do not have narrow feet, a low instep, flat feet, or anything else. My ankles and calves are larger than average, so that's not it.

The Russel Moccasin Backcountry is my first foray into high quality footwear and has exceeded my expectations. The build quality is phenomenal, with ample room in the toe box that allows for the toes to splay naturally. If you’re looking for a boot that is rugged, and will last a lifetime with proper care, this is the one. Minimal break in period and a truly unique boot that encompasses traditional American values. This will not be my last purchase from Russel, I am however disappointed to see that according to their website, the Gustin bird shooter will be discontinued as these were the next pair of boots that I wanted to purchase.

Love these boots

The boots fit well around the ball of my foot and the length is also good. By most standards my ankle size is between medium and large. Above the joint they measure 9 1/2 inches, and 10 inches at the ball of the foot. The only problem I have with the boots is that the uppers are very large and almost touch when the boots are laced up. Hopefully they will not stretch as they break in.
