The History
Celebrating 120 years of hand-crafted, American made outdoor footwear excellence! "Bill" Gustin purchased the W.C. Russell Moccasin Company in 1928. As an an avid bird hunter, he realized after a few years that there was a definite need for a much lighter, more flexible boot.
The description below is quoted in our 1942 catalog:
"This popular moccasin was designed for those who want an extremely light weight, all-purpose boot for bird hunting, squirrel shooting, deer hunting, etc., The 'Bird Shooter' can't be beat. They are as 'light as a feather' on your feet and as quiet as a stalking Indian. Being a true Russell Moccasin, comfort speaks for itself. You have no idea how much farther your legs can cheerfully carry you until you have a pair of these specially designed "Bird Shooters" on your feet."
The Leather
Made from water-resistant, full-grain Walnut Timberjack leather, The Gustin will take you on any adventure in the field. Over time it will patina and darken to a beautiful deep brown. Condition with Obenaufs or Pecards.
The Construction
The "Gustin Bird Shooter" is made with our famous Double Vamp Moccasin construction. The entire boot is leather lined for support and added water-resistance. The Bird Shooter is 9" tall with Army Studs, eyelets, and a pull loop.
The Sole
We are sure you will find our newest version "The Gustin Bird Shooter" even more comfortable with the addition of a lightweight Vibram Aspen Gumlite sole. This outsole has great traction for a variety of terrains and with a low tread depth, it is easy to knock off mud at the end of the day. Bolstered by the support of our Double Stack Midsole, this combination is extremely versatile.
